While Sandakphu is considered a relatively easy trek, it’s essential to be physically and mentally prepared for the high-altitude environment. With proper planning and a moderate level of fitness, you can embark on this unforgettable adventure.

Sandakphu Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Darjeeling
Upon your arrival at Darjeeling Bus Stand, you will be greeted by a representative who will guide you to your hotel. After checking in, join a briefing session to discuss trekking essentials and learn necessary skills.
Spend the afternoon exploring Darjeeling. Enjoy a cable car ride for panoramic views, visit Nightingale Park, or shop for souvenirs at the Main Market.

Day 2: Darjeeling to Manebhanjan and Trek to Tumling
After breakfast, embark on a scenic 95km drive to Manebhanjan. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas as you ascend through the foothills. The final 2km journey involves a steep descent with hairpin bends, offering a memorable experience.
Upon reaching Manebhanjan, have lunch and begin your trek to Tumling, another stunning peak in the Singalila Range. Pass through border areas guarded by SSB soldiers and set up camp in Tumling for the night.

Day 3: Tumling to Kalipokhri

After breakfast, embark on a 12km trek to Kalipokhri. The trail is steep, so it’s essential to start early. Pass through the scenic Singalila National Park, where you can explore the diverse wildlife. The trail leads through a dense forest and may intersect with jeep tracks. While you won’t see the vibrant rhododendrons and magnolias in bloom during the winter, the trek offers stunning views. Reach Kalipokhri, a small black water pond, and set up camp in the nearby open area.

Day 4: Kalipokhri to Sandakphu Summit

After breakfast, begin your final ascent to Sandakphu Summit. Trek through Nepal, enjoying the unique experience. Take breaks at tea stalls along the way to refresh yourself. After a few kilometers of level terrain, ascend the steep path to the summit. Celebrate your achievement and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Spend the night in a lodge or homestay at Sandakphu.

Day 5: Sandakphu to Gurdum

After enjoying the views of Sandakphu Summit, descend towards Darjeeling. Admire the iconic Sleeping Buddha formation, consisting of Kanchenjunga, Kumbhakarna, and Pandim. Trek through a relatively level path to Gurdum, where you will set up camp for the night.

Day 6: Gurdum to Rimbik

After breakfast, descend to the Srikhola River, located 10km away. Enjoy a leisurely trek through India to the river, where you can relax and have lunch. Continue your trek to Rimbik, which is 1km away. Check into your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 7: Rimbik to Darjeeling

After breakfast, embark on a 60km drive back to Darjeeling, enjoying the scenic Himalayan views along the way. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax for the night.

Day 8: Departure from Darjeeling

After breakfast, pack your belongings and meet the representative at the reception. They will assist you in reaching Darjeeling Bus Stand, where you can board a bus to Bagdogra Airport and continue your journey.
